Polish poetry in English? It must have been a difficult task of transferring the meaning of poems from polish into English verses. We encourage you, the polish reader to explore and expand your own English language skills or you, the English reader to enjoy the poetic experience in a slightly different style and form. We stop here not over works of such masters as Herbert or Norwid, but the poet not that well known in his native land. His latest poetry collection LIBERUM VETO, is a distinctive work of art. The latest poetry collection HYMN PORANNY (A morning anthem) by Jozef Baran is a fresh voice of its time. Jozef Baran addresses his poems not only to professional poetry readers and critics, but primarily to the everyday man, thus proving, that modern poetry vividly speaks not only to the professionals. He writes beautiful, strong lyrics 'leading straight to people's harts' wrote Artur Sandauer. 'Such deep experience resides in this poetry, such calmness, such gentleness!', complements Ryszard Kapu¶ciński. 'Surprisingly new themes. Opening up to the world which is "a global village" . . . but always the same tenderness, the same lyrical suggestiveness, the same personal tone' Julian Kornhauser explains.

An album of photographs: the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, first days chronicled in pictures by the occupant. The Publisher came upon the collection of photographs by chance at one of London's flea markets. A simple file with pockets, generally used to store documents, contained original photographs from Stroop's album, the SS commander of the Warsaw Ghetto termination. The present publication, portraying the first stage of the Warsaw Ghetto termination, is a historical document of drama and destruction instigated by the occupant! The short poems accompanying the pictures, written by Francesco Bernardini in the form of etudes, evoke fear and horrors of those days.

'Waclaw Kostrzewa is a born poet - writes Józef Baran - who uses his gift of a natural broad vocabulary with fluency. The sparkles of humour together with lyricism are greatly enjoyable in his poems. His poetry is fresh, full of imagery and the beauty of life. He is one of a few Polish lyricists who can so wonderfully describe the act of lovemaking'. The poems in which he returns to the places of his childhood are undoubtedly moving. Maciej Szczawiński comments: 'His poetry is like the sound of morning bells on Sunday. Essential, pure lyricism will make your head spin with delight.
